Classifications

In this series of seminars students will learn the basis of British law, what it is and in broad terms, how it functions. Students will learn in detail what terms like public and private and criminal and civil actually mean, and how they are the same and different. They will learn where these labels come from and how we use them as well as understand how the British legal system is structured.

Legislation

In this series of seminars students will learn about the legislative process and how a Bill becomes an Act of Parliament. Students will learn in detail how legislation is created by Parliament. Students will learn about the legislative process from initial idea, through reading and committee stages to royal assent and publication.

Case Law

In this series of seminars students will learn what case law is and what impact it has on developing legal rules. Students will learn in detail what case law is. They will learn how case law is created and where to find it. Students will then learn about precedent and how binding and persuasive precedents can affect decisions in subsequent legal cases.

EU LEgacy

In this series of seminars students will learn that even though Britain has left the European Union, the legacy of the European Union remains in British law. Students will learn in detail about Regulations, Directives and EU and non-EU laws and how they influenced, and sometimes had primacy over, British law.
